The goal for the breaststroke breakout is to maintain the speed generated from the breaststroke pullout.
Keep your head in line with your spine as you surface. I like to say, "breakout with your back."
This careful body position will prevent your head from popping up out of the water first, causing drag.
Watch the video below and determine if the swimmers are maintaining speed and power into the breakout.
Ask your coach to watch your breaststroke breakout. Are you breaking out with your head only, or with your head in line with your spine?
