Pre-Race Routine for Swimmers

Do you have a pre-race routine? Begin working on a routine for your next meet.  It will evolve, and over time it will help you feel comfortable and confident.

Your routine needs to be the same before each race.
  1. The race begins when you step foot in the area behind the blocks.
  2. Only think about the event you are about to swim.  Consider your coach's comments.
  3. Increase your heart rate (small pogo jumps, jumping jacks, etc.)
  4. Stretch muscle groups lightly.  (no more than 5 seconds each)
  5. Do something special.  (i.e. * Michael Phelps arm swing * Missy Franklin smile and clap)
I can't wait to see them in action!
